I’m Lisa, a real food lover, gluten-free recipe developer, world traveler and wellness blogger. I’m also a big advocate of self-care and taking life “down a notch” – while chasing adventures half-way across the globe! Because it’s all about balance.
Downshiftology is my online home, nestled in the sweet spot between health, wellness and happiness. It’s where you’ll find nutrient-dense recipes, healthy travel tips, kitchen how-to’s and personal stories…all of which are meant to inspire your own wellness journey, where life is a little more simple and far more vibrant!
Just a few years ago, my life looked very different. Wellness was not a priority and I sure didn’t understand balance. I was your quintessential, “type A” corporate workaholic. As an executive for healthcare companies (cancer research, diagnostic imaging and molecular diagnostics) my days consisted of long hours, high stress and poor eating, usually while running between meetings.
Then, in the span of two years starting at age 35 I was diagnosed with four autoimmune diseases – celiac, hashimoto’s, psoriasis and endometriosis. To say my world went topsy turvy would be an understatement!
With no direction on how to heal myself (other than to go gluten-free and take medications) I decided to roll up my sleeves and figure things out. I researched everything about chronic/autoimmune diseases and became entrenched in nutrition, gut health and the mind/body connection. I also became a certified health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
The dots finally connected and I learned how to really nourish my body – through food and lifestyle. After figuring out my body’s unique triggers and providing a nourishing environment, I reversed virtually all symptoms of my autoimmune diseases within a year.
Today, I’m passionate about life restarts and helping others make positive nutrition and lifestyle changes – at any age. With delicious, wholesome, gluten-free recipes along with inspiring wellness and travel posts, I’m happy to show you that simple is not boring and food restrictions are not life restrictions.
