This sexy superfood hot chocolate is loaded with tons of superfood ingredients – it will boost your health, mood, hormones and overall well-being.
When I woke up this morning there was some thick fog hugging the hills. And you could feel that the rain wasn’t too far behind. It was dark and gloomy and almost enough for me to stay in bed all snuggled warm. But I’ve been so determined to get back into shape for my Portugal trip that I threw on some gym clothes, tossed on a baseball cap and headed out the door. And honestly, I was quite proud of myself! Because what I really wanted to do was lay in my cozy bed and simultaneously whip up this sexy superfood hot chocolate. Perhaps with some go-go-gadget arms?! (you remember Inspector Gadget, right?).
So what turns your classic hot chocolate into a superfood hot chocolate….and even better…a sexy superfood hot chocolate? Well, let’s take a look…
It all starts with the raw cacao, a potent antioxidant with mood-enhancing compounds and you guessed it, aphrodisiac qualities. Studies have shown that the chemicals in raw cacao can balance your hormones, improve libido and restore feelings of well-being. Good stuff – but it gets even better!
Because then we add maca, a root grown in the high altitude regions of Peru that’s known for it’s positive effects on hormones, fertility, libido, energy levels and stamina.
But if you’re wondering why this superfood hot chocolate is a little more golden in color than a traditional hot chocolate, it’s probably due to the goji berries. I have a big container of goji berries that I love to snack on. Some eat raisins, and well, I eat goji berries. So I thought, why not add them to the mix? Goji berries are the most nutritionally-dense fruit on earth and contain all essential amino acids. They’re also known to improve mood, energy, sleeping habits, immune function and overall wellness.
More sweetness and a little spice comes in the form of dates, cinnamon, cardamom, sea salt and vanilla bean powder. Though if you don’t have vanilla bean powder, feel free to use vanilla extract.
And finally we come to the last ingredients – ground chia seeds and coconut oil. The ground chia seeds are loaded with digestive health benefits and omega-3’s. They also make the hot chocolate thick and super delicious. And the tablespoon of coconut oil adds amazing medicinal benefits and helps to produce the frothy bubbles on top.
Whew! Lots of superfoods, vitamins, minerals and nutrients packed into this little drink! It sounds like a lot of stuff, but honestly, it couldn’t be easier to make because all you have to do is heat up your favorite milk (coconut, almond, hemp, etc – or water) and add it to a high-powered blender, like my fave Vitamix, along with the other ingredients and in 20 seconds you’ve got this amazingly delicious and frothy hot chocolate concoction.
Enjoy!

Did you use raw maca root powder or gelatinized maca root powder? It seems that with the raw that you must heat it or you will likely will end up with stomach cramps.
Love this recipe, such a great way to incorporate so many good ingredients!
I try this out, as I look so yummi and it is! <3
I did it without maca powder (I did not have) but it tasted incredible anyway!
Make sure to use indeed a high-powered blender for better results.
¨sorry for the mistake. it should say: “as it looked so yummi”
I do remember Inspector Gadget! (Now I have that song stuck in my head, thanks a LOT, haha) This hot chocolate sounds absolutely amazing. And it’s healthy? Sign me up!
What a creative chocolate recipe is this. Ingredient combo is just amazing. I would love to try this out soon
Your pictures are so mouthwatering that even the simplest recipe becomes a winner! Going to make hot chocolate right away! :)
I just made this as an afternoon pick me up and it was fantastic! I didn’t have any vanilla powder so I added a bit of vanilla bean paste. SOOO good!
Wonderful! Happy to hear you enjoyed this tasty hot chocolate!
What a creative and delicious hot chocolate!! I love how you packed it full of superfoods – I feel like this will become my new breakfast treat that I can enjoy guilt free!
Definitely a chocolate treat you can enjoy with added benefits to it :)
A better idea. put it all in your vitmix first You don’t have to grind the chia as your vitmix liquefies it all. You could melt the chocolate in a ittle bit water first but it will blend nicely either way, than warm only to the temp you want in the microwave or on the stove. I use MCT oil instead of coconut oil sometimes to get the best benifits. Love it
Since that is a long list of ingredients, have you ever tried mixing up a batch of the dry ingredients and then putting a portion in the blender with the milk when you want to make a cupful?
Hi Ann – I haven’t done that, but it sounds like a smart idea to me. ;)
I tried the Sexy Superfood Hot chocolate and when putting it in the blender it exploded – blew the top right off and not so sexy hot chocolate was EVERYWHERE. I’m guessing because the milk was hot. Maybe this is common sense, but it wasn’t to me. Now I know.
Yikes! I blend hot drinks and soups in my blender all the time, so it sounds like perhaps the lid just wasn’t on tight. But glad you didn’t get harmed with anything hot.
Wow, that’s like Superwoman’s breakfast:D Looks incredibly delicious and nutritious!
Thanks Laura! So maybe we should call it a Superwoman’s Sexy Superfood Hot Chocolate?! Ha! I kinda like it! ;) x
