Drinking a glass of turmeric tea is one of my favorite wellness rituals. It’s easy to make at home and serves up a warm, soothing blend of ground turmeric, lemon juice, and honey.

Why You’ll Love This Turmeric Tea
Although I do use tea bags from time to time, nothing compares to the flavor and freshness of homemade tea. Every time I make ginger tea, matcha tea, or this turmeric tea, I’m reminded how easy and worthwhile it is to skip the bags and make it from scratch. Plus, homemade teas are simply the best way to get the most from each ingredient’s benefits, which is really the goal here, right? But back to this turmeric tea, here’s why I make this one often:
- It’s incredibly healthy. Turmeric is one of my favorite anti-inflammatory ingredients that boosts my wellness every time I get sick. You’ll also find turmeric in my golden milk, jamu juice, and turmeric smoothie!
- It’s easily customizable. I’ll show you how to add more spice flavor or give it a citrus boost. There are many ways to put your own spin on it.
- It stores well for the week. The beauty of fresh teas is that you can make a small pot to enjoy throughout the week. Think of it as wellness meal prep, in tea form!
Turmeric Tea Ingredients

- Turmeric: I use ground turmeric for a quick and easy approach (and it’s a staple in my spice drawer). If you want to use fresh turmeric, just grate about 1 ½ teaspoons of turmeric root.
- Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice lends a bright pop of citrus flavor and complements the turmeric well.
- Honey: I like my tea with a hint of sweetness to balance out the bitterness, whether that’s using honey or maple syrup. But you can always omit this if you’re avoiding sugar.
- Black Pepper: Just a pinch of black pepper helps your body absorb the curcumin from the turmeric.

How to Make Turmeric Tea

First, add the water, turmeric, lemon juice, and black pepper to a small pot, then whisk together. This is essentially the base of turmeric tea without any sweetener.

Then, it’s time for a quick boil. Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn the heat down to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes. Once simmered, turn off the heat, stir in the honey, and let the tea cool for a minute or two before drinking.
Customize Your Tea
- Add spices: Add ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, nutmeg, or ground cloves for a toasty spice flavor. I also like adding fresh ginger slices for extra health benefits!
- Add earthiness: Make this a more robust tea by adding a bag of chamomile tea or green tea to the pot while it simmers.
- Add citrus: Try swapping the lemon juice for freshly squeezed orange juice.
Storage Tips
The good news is that you can make a pot of this and enjoy it throughout the week. It will stay fresh in the fridge for 4 to 5 days. For reheating, I typically reheat the tea on the stovetop, but you can also microwave it if you’re on a time crunch. Either way, it’s the perfect healthy drink to keep on hand for the colder months.

Seems turmeric tea requires some fat to be most beneficial. Most recommended is turmeric milk for the fat content or a splash of coconut oil.
Why is the color off? This is yellow and mine is orange-ish.
